Josh is now 6months! It's hard to believe his thIs age already. Time has been flying by.

Monday he mastered how to sit up on his own from his tummy. He can't sit up from his back yet. He is also trying to crawl. He can do it in an inch worm fashion for a bit. He will roll where he wants to go as well.

Josh is still not sleeping thru the night. Some day he will.

Tuesday April 28, 2015

Time sure does fly by. I think of posting and then something gets in the way. So while Josh is sleeping I'll sneak this in...

Tomorrow Josh will be 3 months old. It's hard to believe that much time has passed. He's grown so much and we're seeing more of his personality coming out.

Things he is doing...

  • Found his hands - sticks them in his mouth, grabs things, smacks things
  • Can follow you around the room with his eyes
  • Recognizing our voices
  • Loves to sit and watch what is going on
  • Loves to stand (we help with balance)
  • Smiles & giggles
  • Wiggle wiggle wiggle
  • Great head control
  • Loves his new activity center -it's a jumper and activity stuff all in one
  • Doesn't care to lay down or recline unless eating or sleeping
  • Likes to look at himself in a mirror or iPad camera
  • Loves the water - we've started swim lessons
  • Can eat up,to 6oz of formula, although not consistently yet
  • Goes to sleep much easier
  • Very few witching hours
I did start back to work on the 22nd. It was very hard to leave Josh at daycare. We expected that and started daycare 2 days earlier to help me adjust. It made a huge difference. Josh enjoys daycare which makes it a lot easier. I would love to stay home but we have some financial goals we are trying to meet...pay off some debt and save money to move.

Josh is not sleeping thru the night yet, he gets hungry still. It is getting better cause he goes to sleep much earlier now, daycare wears him out.

I can't think of anything else to share. Have a great rest of the week!

Boy time sure does fly by. Baby is now six weeks old and growing so fast. I don't get much free time to do much other than chores or nap. I'm pumping breast milk right now while he sleeps.

Overall things are going well. We have good days and bad days. Baby is fussy in the evenings but that is getting better. We find wrapping him up (swaddling) really helps calm him. Some nights we get more sleep than others. Last night was a bit tough but this morning we stayed in bed until 8:30 for more sleep after a bottle about 6. That helped both me & baby be in better moods.

Baby is doing great with his head control. He loves to sit up (with help) and watch things. He likes to bounce on your knees. Diaper changes are going better, he rarely cries during them now. Changing clothes can still cause tears, it's easier when both Mom & Dad are changing him than just one of us.

I am not looking forward to going back to work. I will miss being with him everyday. At least his daycare has a webcam I can peek in on him, or stop by for lunch.

Week 39 & delivery...

On Monday 1/26 the Dr inserted a Foley catheter to help dilate my cervix. Unfortunately I was not dilated to begin with so it took 3 tries to get it inserted. That was not fun. The balloon that holds the catheter in place is filled with saline and the pressure will cause the cervix to dilate.

That night I noticed an increase in fluid leaking out of the tube so we went to the hospital to be checked out. It wasn't amino fluid, so we were sent home. Tue we went back to the Dr and he removed it, I had barely dilated 1.5cm. So we would have to wait for the hospital to call t start the induction. Tuesday passed very slowly waiting for the call. All medically necessary inductions take higher priority over my type.

Finally Wednesday morning at 6 am the hospital called. We needed to be there by 7:30 am.

We are put in triage waiting for a nurse and bed to be available. The Dr tries to break my water but can't feel the bag. Around noon I'm started on pitocin at 2ml dosage. About 1:30 pm we are moved to a delivery room. My pitocin is upped about every 30 min by 2 ml. By the time I hit 12ml I can start feeling the contractions pretty good.

Gene says I go from being happy to being miserable very quickly. Around 4pm I ask for an epidural as I couldn't mange the pain anymore. I was only dilated to a 3.

Epidural are wonderful. It hurt less getting the needle inserted than the IV did. Pain was removed pretty quickly. Every time the pitocin dosage increased I would get the shakes. The epidural made me itch.

As needed Gene would scratch my back or rub my back. The shakes would make my back muscles tense up. I did run out of the epidural medicine but was able to get more before the pain came back.

Finally at 5am I am ready to push. This was very hard since I really couldn't feel much to know if I was really pushing the way they wanted me to. Each contraction I had to push for 10 sec for 3 times. It totally wore me out. Gene and the nurse would push my legs back, while I pulled them back and pused out. You have to hold your breath for those 10 sec.

An hour and 45 min later we had a baby. I did have to have an episiotomy as baby has a big head and very broad shoulders. I remember being asked about my feelings on getting the episiotomy and said if I need one I need one. Then he cut and the rest is a bit of a blur. Gene says the baby got stuck at the shoulders and all the nurses swoop in to help the dr get him out. I remember being folded in half and someone pushing down on my uterus. I was trying to push but had nothing left in reserve. Then there was relief, baby was out, I could hear him cry.

While the dr was attending to my needs, the nurses were taking care of the baby. I got the shakes so bad afterwards I thought I might shake myself off the bed. Finally I get to hold the baby. He is perfect.

His stats
10 lbs 8oz
23 & 1/4 inches long
14 cm head circumference
Born 1/29 @ 6:59 am on a Thursday
Joshua David Ames

Joshua is now 5 days old and absolutely adorable. His little personality is starting to show. While I sorta miss having inside of me, I love being able to see him and hold him. 😍😍😍

week 38  -  in the home stretch.

We are nearing the end of this pregnancy, it has been a wonderful journey and I have enjoyed being pregnant. The 3rd trimester is hard, you're tired, huge, uncomfortable and ready to be done.

I am being monitored 2x a week due to age and signs of preeclampsia. My blood pressure has been rather high when I'm at the dr's office. When we're at home it's much better. Although at home I just lay around with my feet up for the most part. Gene has been wonderful, he makess sure I have what I need and set up my laptop for work so I can keep my feet up. Anyways, on Mondays I have fetal monitoring where I am hooked up to a machine that tracks the baby's heartbeat and mine. Then in Thursdays I have an ultrasound to check on the fluid and we see the Dr.

This past Thuraday the tech said the baby's head is way down there, and good thing she didn't have to measure it. I know the baby's head is way down there based on all the pressure I have.😄.

Friday we decided we would try to induce labor naturally on our own. So Friday I used the breast pump to get things moving. I followed the instructions I found online by a midwife. Well I did end up with contractions but obviously since I'm still pregnant it didn't work. In addition I'm a bit sore. Using the pump felt a bit agricultural.

Yesterday we tried castor oil. Gene put in it some orange juice so it wasn't too bad. The OJ had an oily mineral taste. I started to feel some nausea within a half hour or so and that stayed around for some time. I didn't throw up thankfully. About 3 hrs after I drank the stuff it hit. The diarrhea wasn't aweful, (TMI - all liquid), the cramps were not overly fun. the bathroom fun lasted about an hour then slowed down. I paced in the living room to see if I could get some contractions as I was a bit crampy.

We went to bed about 10, and at 12:30 the cramps started. They were crampy contractions that would come and go. At 3:45 Gene woke up and I told him what was going on. So I paced in the bedroom, and would rest a bit, he would rub my lower back because it too was contracting. We thought things were moving forward. Unfortunately the fun stopped about 5am.

We won't be trying anymore natural induction options, as obviously my body and the baby are not ready yet. That is what all the info I found said, the options we tried will only work if your body &/or the baby is ready.  So we are back to resting and taking walks. The baby will come when he is ready or we will use medical induction to get him out on week 39.

Friday December 26, 2014

wow, where has time gone? Weeks 34/35

So I feel as those I'm as big as a house and can't possibly get any bigger, but then I do. It is so hard to get up off the couch, get out of bed, or even roll over. I get very winded going up and down the stairs. Who knew it would wear me out wrapping gifts. My poor family , I used packing tape on some of their gifts than instead of regular tape cause it was handy.

So things that have been happening....heartburn every night, with acid reflux- fun! I snore like a truck driver when I sleep. Gene says usually within 5 min of laying down i'm sawing logs. I don't even know I'm snoring. I do wake myself up when it's the big snore noise. At night I go to the bathroom almost hourly. I waddle too. I have been having BH contractions, most are not painful. I do get these whammo ones that are sharp and quick, but not many recently. I have to walk slow. Bending over is hard too, putting on my socks is a challenge.

We had a very nice Christmas. We decided to do a family gift of a digital camera so we can take great pictures of the baby once he's here. There are so many buttons and gadgets that I don't know will ever learn them all.

We shall see when this little guy is going to arrive. I am ready any time, so is Gene. Granted we want our boy to cook as long as he needs to tho, better to have lungs that are ready, than need to be in the NICU for care.

I have most of the stuff ready for him. I need to put a few things in the hospital bag. I can't fully pack it yet as I have only so many pairs of pants/shirts to wear and some of my daily bathroom stuff has to be added too. I am hoping to work from home starting Jan 12th, then work until this kid pops out. While I would love to start my leave sooner, that limits the time I can spend with the baby.

Week 27

Things are progressing very well. No major complaints. It is getting harder to move around, like getting off the couch, out of bed is harder. The couch is tough because it is deep and my feet don't touch the floor. The baby moves around quite a bit and usually wakes me up while I'm sleeping. I go to the bathroom 2-3 times a night. So I am tired as I don't get a solid 8 hrs of uninterrupted sleep. Yes, I know this is only the beginning.

My hips have started to hurt, more muscular than joint. I have to stretch before I go to bed or I wake up with muscle cramps. I am only really comfy on my right side, I miss sleeping on my back.

I don't walk as fast as I used to. I used to outpace Gene pretty easy but he has to slow down for me.

I have my glucose test on the 17th, that should be fun. I don't like orange drinks, other that OJ. Hope I can get it down.

It is more interesting now when the baby does move in trying to figure out what body part is where. He is approx 15" or so head to toe. I would lean a bit longer than that since he's been measuring big.

My shower was a lot of fun and it was great to see everyone. We received a lot of great things. I need to get out the thank you notes soon. Most are written just being slow at getting them out in the mail.

Not much else going on. We are getting the baby's room ready next weekend and will do some shopping too. We bought some shelves for the garage so we can rearrange things some. Moving my craft stuff to the front room, moving storage items to the garage.  Need to donate a bunch of stuff too.

Well dinner is almost ready, well Gene went to pick up Chinese he'll be back any second. Have a great week.
